Santos Trails
There are certainly miles and miles of hiking trails in Ocala/Marion County, but this one stands out as the place to go for off-road cycling. Part of the Cross Florida Greenway, the Santos Trail has roughly 20 miles of twisting tracks that range in challenge from Bunny to Speedway. Adrenaline seekers travel for a ride on the Vortex trail that winds through challenging technical features and includes rocky areas, wooded jumps, a corkscrew structure and more to keep experienced riders guessing. There are also plenty of stretches for folks to ride on beautifully paved trails or enjoy the Santos Trails on foot, with the added benefit of watching bicyclists cruise by. The Trailhead also features covered and open picnic tables, as well as other outdoor amenities.
Don Garlits Museum Of Drag Racing
Don “Big Daddy” Garlits, 88, is widely considered the father of drag racing, so it’s only fitting that he owns and runs a museum that’s dedicated to this motorsport. The museum features rows and rows of dragsters of all types from all around the world. Among them are several of Garlits’ record-setting “Swamp Rat” Top Fuel cars. Visitors can not only view an impressive collection of automotive muscle, but get an education on drag racing history. Garlits is a hands-on presence, and can often be found giving talks or demonstrations at the museum. The facility, just off 1-75, also includes the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame.
