Make adventure one where you get to learn about Florida’s unique history, the remarkable environment and booming agriculture.
1. Glass Bottom Boat Rides
From the historic design of the boats to the serene setting of the Silver River, stepping aboard a glass-bottom boat tour feels a bit like stepping back in time. Hear the history of Silver Springs and about all the water life that you will see from your boat captain.
Silver Springs, located just east of Ocala, is one of the largest artesian springs ever discovered, making it the perfect spot for visitors to scope out fish, manatees, turtles, alligators and vegetation in the crystal-clear waters beneath the boats. Look closely and you’ll even see a dugout canoe dating back to the 1500s resting on the riverbed, a relic of the area’s Native American settlers.
Thirty-minute Glass Bottom Boats tours are available seven days a week. Guests interested in an extended tour can take a 90 minute boat ride available Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
2. Fort King National Historic Landmark
Fort King is a sight to behold, and free to boot. Check out the Fort that stood as a base of operations during the Second Seminole War, the Heritage Garden or simply take in the views while walking the interpretive path from the Fort. One of 52 National Historic Landmarks in Florida, a to-scale replica of the fort offers visitors the opportunity to experience a piece of the region’s rich history.
3. Cracker Village
In the Cracker Village at Silver Springs State Park, immerse yourself into history with a first-hand look at the historic homes and modest lifestyles of Florida during the 1800s. Through a guided walking tour, visitors can explore the replica of a 19th Century pioneer settlement, going in and out of the village’s buildings, like the blacksmith shop. Tours are offered in the morning on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month.
4. Farm Tour At Crones Cradle
Nestled on more than 750 acres in northwest Ocala/Marion County, Crones Cradle Conserve is a natural farm growing a large variety of chemical free vegetables, herbs and fruit.
