UNIQUE "ART OF THE CHOPPER" EXHIBIT OPENS AT APPLETON MUSEUM IN OCALA

The "Art of the Chopper" exhibit opened Saturday at the Appleton Museum of Art, is the first curated exhibition of motorcycles created as works of art. The exhibit, which has also appeared at the Clinton Library, represents a very special addition to the Marion County cultural scene.

The one-of-a-kind show features 30 motorcycles, highlighting these custom-crafted machines as both sculpture and pieces of Americana. Indian Larry, Rick Fairless, Mike Brown and Jerry Graves number among the renowned chopper creators whose work is featured in the exhibit. Also on display will be 20 half-tanks showcasing the traditional paint jobs on motorcycles over the decades.

A number of complementary events will also beheld at the Appleton, including a Motorcycles on Film Series and Lectures Sunday afternoon from October 11th through November 15th. These events will complement the exhibit and expand the celebration of this special art form.

The Appleton Museum of Art is located at 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd., in Ocala. Tickets and more information can be obtained at the museum's website, www.AppletonMuseum.org. Tickets to the exhibition cost $12 for adults; $10 for seniors 55 and over; $8 for museum members, youths ages 10-18 and college students with ID and $5 for children ages 3 to 9. Children under 3 are free.
